The Inspiration

My second child is the inspiration for the microschool. Upon entering middle school she experienced the perfect storm of a change in school environment (and in her mind safety), the onslaught of adolescent hormones and a previously undiagnosed medical condition. In short, her world fell apart. She was spiraling toward depression and unable to attend school.* We unenrolled her and attempted to homeschool her while working full time. Our only option was to leave her at home unsupervised.

As we blindly maneuvered through this bleak period I wondered if there were other families experiencing these same challenges. I kept thinking that there had to be a way to help  children and families in similar situations. I envisioned an alternative learning environment where students would be safely monitored and have the flexibility and support to work at their own pace in a calm setting. One where they could pursue their own curriculum and interests while feeling safe and comfortable enough to ask for help.

Two years of teaching post pandemic was the impetus to turn that dream into a reality. There were so many students in need of intervention due to the struggles of emergency virtual learning and not enough funding and resources to help all of them. I felt that returning to private academic tutoring would provide students with interventions that they were not able to receive in the school system  and I could also aid older students struggling to be successful in the traditional school setting..

If your child and family are in need of an alternative education setting, for any reason, please come take a tour and learn more about what we can offer. In times of crisis understanding, flexibility and support are crucial.
